What’s The Problem

Every single problem in the world can be boiled down into one of two things: someone wants to take something, or someone wants to control something. Listen, I am guilty. I don’t have the desire to take anything from anyone, but I’m all about the control. For example, I believe that everyone would be happier if they would simply treat everyday like a musical. You can’t be miserable when adding a little song or spontaneous dance routine into your daily interactions. Naturally, not everyone agrees with me, and trying to force random song and dance on others isn’t well met. I also strongly believe you shouldn’t act like an ass to others, but who defines what an ass is? Who draws the line on what is acceptable and what isn’t, and what do you do with the offending ass? You see? problems…

Think about the biggest problem you have right now. Which is it, greed? control? Take a hard look at yourself. Is it you? Are you coveting something that doesn’t belong to you? Are you trying to force others to think the way you want them to? Do you want someone to behave the way YOU think they should behave? Do you think that the world should revolve around or cater to your feelings? Well, I am sorry, my friend. I am going to give you some sage advice. Taking from others will always end in conflict. And then there is this…YOU CAN’T CONTROL OTHERS. Your control ends at how you react or interact. I know this because I am the lone performer in the musical I call my life. Any attempts to cajole, bully, or force will only result in conflict and resentment. Stolen power is only temporary.

I am not naive enough to believe that the world’s problems would magically disappear by heeding my advice. However, if every single human woke up tomorrow morning and decided to do away with selfish notions, treat everyone and everything with respect, and approached situations with a sense of selflessness and empathy… we would come really close.

At the very least, examine your interactions with others. Lead by the golden rule example. Treat others the way you expect to be treated. We need more people walking in the light around here because this place is starting to feel really dark. Better yet, you should sing this message to the masses. Maybe throw a little dance in with it… you know, to make the world a better place. But, whatever, you do you without harm and I’ll agree to do the same.
