I stopped blogging for awhile; I just couldn’t reconcile the everyday crazy. Literally, the only thing that I could manage to get on paper was…. BE A DECENT HUMAN.
I still feel that way…but I had an epiphany yesterday.
I was selling some furniture online. A person, I’ll refer to as Hugh Jass, reached out to me in feigned interest. Hugh wanted to make sure my post was “legitimate” and asked for my phone number. Hugh then demanded the six-digit code that he/she had texted to my phone. It took me a hot minute to realize that Hugh was trying to scam me. OK, to be honest, I had to Google search what was happening, but STILL!
WHY???!!!!!
My first instinct was to CRUSH Hugh. I believe that people are generally good, and he/she took advantage of that. I wanted that Hugh Jass to suffer.
AND THERE IT WAS.
Everyone seems to have a vigilante mentality. Violence, instilling fear, bullying, intimidation, belittling, and shaming – these things have become our go-to resolutions for everything. The Golden Rule of treating others the way we want to be treated has gone by the wayside. I have some bad news for us, friends.
There will always be rotten people.
There will always be someone who sees things differently than you do.
What is common sense to one person will be absurd to another.
Not everyone is going to agree with you.
There will always be someone you can’t stand.
There will always be someone who can’t stand you.
There will always be someone out there ready to poopoo on your core values.
It is called humanity, and you can’t vigilante that out. NO ONE will ever respond to shaming, anger, violence, and intimidation with anything more than shaming, anger, violence and intimidation. It becomes a spiraling circle of hatred.
You can inspire.
You can educate with love.
You can motivate with humor.
You can lead by example.
You CANNOT get someone to change by terrorizing them.
What good is winning a fight if the person you “overcame” will simply double down on efforts to destroy or undermine everything you were fighting for to begin with?
So, I forgive you, Hugh, for coming after me. I am going to take heart in knowing that Karma will come for you. However, it must be noted that the curse I put on you and your entire family line was already set in motion and cannot be reversed. Therefore, the audio on your streaming devices will lag three seconds behind the video for all eternity.
BE A DECENT HUMAN…
